A Small Bite of Apple, a Giant Leap for iGaming

Apple recently announced the launch of a new “Apple Sports” app, allowing millions of users to track sports events more easily. This news has excited many sports fans. With the addition of this global giant, it indicates that the online sports betting market may face a disruptive change.

Apple’s move attracted widespread attention. Designed specifically for iPhone users, this free app provides live scores, statistics and other information about the game, all designed with speed and simplicity at its core. Eddie Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, said: “We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want — an app that delivers incredibly fast access to scores and stats.”

While the app is ostensibly dominated by the Fantasy Sports platform and sports betting company DraftKings, there’s no doubt that Apple is also a major driver of this potential revolution.

In the past, the sports app market was largely limited to smaller platforms and established brands like Walt Disney’s ESPN and PENN Entertainment’s theScore. However, with the addition of Apple, this field will be raised to a new and fiercely competitive level of business war. In this regard, Dmitry Belyanin, an expert in the field of iGaming, made some key comments. He said on social media: “Apple is not involved in this game, they own this game, they are even the referee of this game.” He questioned Apple’s motives in developing this live score application.

Apple, for its part, has cleverly eliminated the gambling element from the app upfront, allowing users to hide betting odds through a settings menu. The app, already available in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, includes a functional area called “Sports Center” where users can watch sports events through Apple’s flagship Apple TV streaming service.

Apple Sports will promptly update each league in the current season, including MLS, NBA, NCAA men’s and women’s basketball, NHL, Bundesliga, La Liga, Mexican Liga MX, French Ligue 1, Premier League and Serie A, etc. It also promises to gradually add information on other leagues, including MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL and WNBA.

According to an introduction released by Apple, users can freely switch between scores and upcoming games, and explore game-by-game information, team data, lineup details and real-time betting odds. Users can also click into the Apple TV app to watch live games from Apple and related streaming media.

Overall, Apple’s entry into the online sports betting market could trigger a major change. For Apple, this may be just a small trial, but for the entire industry, it may be a huge challenge. It can be said to be today’s sports betting and tomorrow’s iGaming era.
