Is Virtual Reality Casino A Trend or A Fad? (Part 2)

In the previous article, we have roughly mentioned the overview of the current VR gaming market as well as the perspectives of software and hardware. Next, we will introduce potential obstacles to the development of VR:

Graphics Quality
In theory, VR should be able to create graphics with high frame rates and high-resolution. Right now, however, the graphics quality available in VR apps is relatively immature compared to the latest games on PS5. This situation may discourage initial users and hinder future development of VR gaming platforms.

Barrier in Purchasing
This is one of the biggest problems in the VR gaming market right now.
Many people are unable to play in VR casinos due to the high cost of purchasing equipment.
In 2022, the average cost of VR glasses in the United States is $430, and it is expected that the cost will remain at this price in the next few years, not to mention the high-spec glasses on the market, which may even cost thousands of dollars to start.
If production costs remain high, it is unlikely that VR will reach the mass market in the future and become available in every home.

Supervision Uncertainty
VR casinos are an emerging market that is still in its infancy, which means that the corresponding supervision system has not yet caught up with market demand. The basic legality of this market alone may be a major task that hinders operators from laying a foundation for the market.
Currently, there is no supervision framework for VR games in the United States. Even who should oversee the platform is still under discussion.

What VR Casinos Need to Succeed
Although the market is full of confidence in the potential development of VR casinos, operators and technology suppliers still need to be more prepared to outperform online gaming platforms (such as live video games) that are nearing maturity.
After all, while non-VR online gaming platforms can’t offer the grandiose experience of immersive VR, they offer something much more important — real money games, full-fledged mobile apps, social promotions, and all without investment of expensive devices.
These platforms have set a precedent for the bare minimum that players can expect. Therefore, future VR casinos need to at least meet the above, and even more, requirements in order to attract players to switch platforms.

Supervision and Safety
To establish credibility, operators will need to prove their credibility, including passing rigorous testing and review of all products, and obtaining an official gaming license through a recognized agency to demonstrate iGaming compliance. System security also needs attentive consideration. Most online casinos currently use SSL encryption, while potential options for VR casinos include biometric security and distributed ledger technology (DLT).

Increase of Game Choices
In order to compete with mature online gaming platforms, VR casinos need to increase the variety of games to match the products of standard casinos. That means adding classic table games like roulette, blackjack, poker, and plenty of slot machines.
On this basis, VR casinos have the opportunity to compete with existing online gaming platforms by providing simulated games and immersive experiences on virtual platforms.

Offer Convenience for Real Money Games
In the world of VR gaming, opportunities for real money games are still rare.
In order to compete with existing online gaming, VR casino operators need to introduce more convenient payment options (e.g.: virtual cash register). The payment method may be cryptocurrency transactions, and this part has gradually gained consensus on online gaming websites.

In-Game Chat Interaction Opportunities
In-game instant communication needs to improve if VR operators are to compete with real-world gaming experiences as they claim.
At present, the social functions in most VR casinos are only the most basic ones. Operators should look for more opportunities to facilitate live conversations, tableside conversations, and chats between players.

Fortunately, cloud communication technology is also constantly developing. The maturity of communication technology allows users to communicate more instantly and directly. If the scope of communication technology can be expanded in the future, VR casinos are expected to add more real-time interactive services.

Are VR casinos Just a Fad?
Although the current development is relatively immature, VR casinos are promising. Whether VR casinos will be a trend of the future or be forgotten in the market will depend on the implementation of fundamental developments. Without these developments, VR casinos will not be able to break into the mainstream market.
At present, the hypothesis of applying VR to online games is still full of unknowns, but we have to wait and see.
